MMDA GM Torre to handle major ops immediately

MANILA: Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager General Nicolas Torre 3rd will be in charge of the agency's major operations.

According to MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes, among those that the newly-hailed executive’s responsibilities include:

• Overseeing the agency’s day-to-day operations (under his direct supervision and guidance)
• Lead initiatives related to public safety, flood control, traffic management and solid waste management in the National Capital Region
• Personally lead traffic management and enforcement efforts as well as clearing operations on major roads and waterways
• Serve as the new agency spokesperson

Artes also shared that the former Philippine National Police chief will ensure that the MMDA will be “actively involved in all flood control projects in Metro Manila from initial planning stage to completion” as the latter will be in discussion with Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon.

At the flag-raising ceremony today, Torre thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the trust and committed to apply his experience from the police force.

“I am excited to join the ranks of the people who keep the metropolis moving and keep the metropolis where we all live, dream, work and do business in, as my new career in government service.  I do hope that I will make the contribution expected of me in MMDA,” Torre said.  

For his part, MMDA Chairman Atty. Romando Artes welcomed Torres to his new post and encouraged agency personnel to extend support and assistance to the latest member of the organization.
