NLEX Corporation’s road-raising project in SCTEX now 50% complete

SCTEX Dinalupihan road raising project

The NLEX Corporation announced that the road-raising project being undertaken at the Dinalupihan portion of Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) is nearly complete.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What can road users expect once the elevation project at a portion of Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway is complete?

SCTEX users can experience less to no flooding in the aforementioned portion of the expressway.
  • How much is the budget for the road-raising project?

The company allotted P150 million for the project.
  • In a statement, the toll operator said that the P150-million project, which is aimed at mitigating the risk of flooding in a 640-meter portion of SCTEX Dinalupihan, is halfway through and is expected to be completed within the third quarter of 2022.

“We are always on the lookout for solutions that can help improve the reliability and safety of our roads and other structures. By elevating this portion of SCTEX, motorists can expect to traverse a safer and more accessible route especially during inclement weather conditions,” NLEX Corporation president J. Luigi Bautista was quoted as saying.

Included in the project are the construction of new pavement on top of the existing one and addition of new culverts or drainage structures.

The NLEX Corporation said that parts of the road are being raised as high as two meters and being filled with layers of earth materials to mitigate possible flooding in the area.

Once completed, the project will enable the infrastructure to be more resilient and further sustain severe weather conditions.

With that, the NLEX Corporation is currently implementing traffic management and safety measures to guide motorists and reduce travel delays following the implementation of lane closures.

The company is regularly advising the public on the closures through its social media channels.

Earlier, the NLEX Corporation raised the elevation of the Maritan Highway-Rizal Highway-Tipo Road junction as part of the capacity expansion of the Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX).

It also improved the expressway’s drainage system in Valenzuela in 2015 and 2021 to mitigate flooding. The projects involved the construction of a pumping facility and a sump at the southbound, and replacement of concrete-made drainage covers to more steel gratings at the northbound side.
