MANILA: The scheduled rehabilitation program for the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) will no longer push through on June 13.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the EDSA Rebuild program take place?

The project has been moved to next month.
  • Will the odd-even scheme dry-run in EDSA push through?

The traffic mitigation measure has also been postponed.
  • This as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has just ordered the postponement of the EDSA Rebuild program for a month.

According to the country’s chief executive, he instructed secretaries Vivencio Dizon and Manuel Bonoan (transportation and public works departments, respectively) to suspend the program after listening to concerns of commuters about the anticipated longer travel time during the EDSA rehabilitation program (which is expected to last for around two years).

Marcos also said that the government will now “find a better way” to ease the plight of commuters.

Following this, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced that it will also suspend the Odd-even scheme dry run on EDSA.

Aside from odd-even scheme, the government is eyeing to implement measures for the now-suspended program:

    • Limited access of provincial buses and trucks carrying perishable goods, garbage trucks, and aviation fuel delivery trucks along EDSA
    • Removal of bike lane separators along EDSA and elimination of obstructions along alternate routes
    • Increasing the number of units in EDSA Busway Carousel and MRT-3
    • Toll holiday on select sections of Skyway Stage 3

Previously, Bonoan shared that the EDSA Rebuild will change the major thoroughfare’s pavement with a sturdy one.

Repair and upgrade will be segmentized and will be done per lane with each portion expected to be completed every two months. The road works will start on the bus lane or innermost lane in both directions until reaching the outer lanes. The stretch of Pasay to Shaw Boulevard (north- and southbound lanes) will be prioritized.
