Picking up the pace: The pros and cons of the Maxus T60

The Maxus T60 is one of the newer players in the local pickup truck segment. It’s the automaker’s first-ever truck and will look to pick up the pace as it races with some of the industry’s established nameplates.

Want to know how it fares against the likes of the Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux, and the Isuzu D-Max? Let’s look at the pros and cons of Maxus’ pickup truck.

Advanced amenities

Most car buyers will often go with a name they can trust and with models that have been on the market for at least a considerable amount of time. However, there are also some advantages to investing in newer nameplates.

The Maxus T60 packs some of the latest amenities in the segment.

Exterior features include automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, rain-sensing wipers, and an electric outside rearview mirror.

In addition, you get cruise control, keyless entry, automatic air-conditioning, and a multi-functional steering wheel.

Useful infotainment system

Maxus packed the T60 with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system that functions as a monitor for the rear camera and features Bluetooth, Mirrorlink, as well as Apple CarPlay compatibility. This means you can pair your smartphone with the T60’s infotainment system.

Audio will be delivered to the six speakers inside the Maxus T60’s interior.

Affordable price

One of its strongest suits, the Maxus T60 offers all these advanced amenities at such an affordable price. The T60 is offered in three variants with prices ranging from P998,000 to P1,328,000.

For comparison, the Nissan Navara’s base variant is priced at P1,026,000 and its range-topping model sits at P1,746,000. Looking at Toyota, the Hilux’s base variant is at P1,113,000 while its top-spec variant is at P1,850,000.

Lacks refinement

Although the Maxus T60 offers a lot of modern features, it seemingly lacks that touch of refinement.

The pickup itself looks like it was built more for utility, hence the interior feel of the cabin leans toward durability rather than luxury. There’s clearly an abundance of hard plastic although the leather seats and the chrome accents inside make up for it.

Decent steering response

The steering wheel of the Maxus T60 feels kind of heavy. Granted that it’s a pickup truck but taking it out for long drives can sometimes feel like a day at the gym.

It’s not as responsive as other pickup trucks in the segment but it does get the job done.

The Maxus T60 is definitely a good pickup truck especially when you consider its price. However, expect to get what you pay for.
