SAIC Motor PH takes over local MG distributorship

The cat is finally out of the bag: SAIC Motor Philippines (SMP) has taken over the distributorship of Morris Garages vehicles in the country. The official announcement was made last July 19.

In a press statement, SMP will be under the helm of Felix Jiang.

“Today, we mark the beginning of a new era in the Philippine automotive industry, one that will lead to a new wave of exceptional vehicles,” Jiang was quoted as saying.

“SAIC Motor Philippines is poised to make a resounding impact in the automotive landscape, setting new benchmarks and redefining what it means to drive with excellence,” he added.

The event also gave attendees a sneak preview of the three new fully-electric vehicles under the marque namely the MG 4, ZS EV, and Marvel R. Per SMP, the aforementioned models will be officially revealed to the Philippines in the final quarter of the year.

“The forthcoming arrival of these new MG EVs is a testament to SAIC’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and cutting-edge design,” the company said.

Further, Jiang said that MG’s dealership network is already at 42 with four more facilities to be added before the end of the year. He added that the company’s goal is to reach 60 by 2025.

To note, the former distributor of MG products in the country is The Covenant Car Company, Incorporated (TCCCI), which also handles Chevrolet. Meanwhile, the global automotive conglomerate also carries brands such as Maxus and Volkswagen (currently marketed by AC Motors), among others.
