SLEX opens San Pedro northbound interchange

New SLEX Northbound Interchange in San Pedro Laguna

MANILA: The South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) northbound interchange in San Pedro, Laguna is already open.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Which government units implemented the construction of the SLEX San Pedro northbound interchange?

The DPWH Regional Office IV-A and Laguna 2nd District Engineering Office have implemented the SLEX San Pedro northbound interchange.
  • How much did the multi-year contracts, which gave way to the completion of the SLEX San Pedro northbound interchange, cost?

According to the DPWH, the multi-year contracts cost some P915 million.
  • On that note, motorists from the city and neighboring areas now have faster means to get to Metro Manila. It is also the most convenient northward way for those from the far south.

A ceremonial inauguration was held on Friday, which was led by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Department of Transportation Secretary Vice Dizon, Toll Regulatory Board Executive Director Attorney Jose Arturo Tugade, Laguna Representative Ma. Rene Ann Lourdes Matibag, and Governor Sol Aragones.

Also present were DPWH officials Undersecretary Eugenio Pipo Jr., Assistant Secretary Loreta Malaluan, Regional Director Jovel Mendoza, and Assistant Director Henry Alcantara of Regional Office IV-A.

“This project stands as a clear example of what we can achieve when we work together – government, private sector, and communities united under a shared goal. It reflects our broader commitment under the Build Better More Infrastructure Agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., toward building a more connected, more resilient, and more inclusive Bagong Pilipinas,” Bonoan said.

The DPWH Secretary added that the new interchange addresses the long-standing requests of San Pedro City residents for a northbound exit, given that only a southbound exit exists.

Without a dedicated way up north, motorists from San Pedro City heading to Metro Manila had to drive up the busy Manila South Road to enter Susana Heights Interchange in Muntinlupa City. Others enter San Pedro southbound to exit Southwoods Interchange in Biñan City, and re-enter via its northbound toll plaza.

Meanwhile, motorists entering San Pedro City from the southbound of SLEX had to exit at Susana Heights Interchange and either re-enter via its southbound entry to exit again at San Pedro southbound plaza, or take the Susana Heights exit and access San Pedro City through Manila South Road in Muntinlupa City.

“Neither of these routes offered a practical solution for daily commuters,” the DPWH said in a press release.
