Shoichiro Toyoda was awarded the Order of Lakandula of the Philippines in 2010.Per TMC, Toyoda’s cause of death was due to heart failure. He was pronounced dead on February 14, 2023, at the age of 97.
Born on February 27, 1925, Toyoda was credited with bringing the brand to the global stage. He is also said to have approved the development of Toyota’s luxury division (Lexus) and was said to have given the Prius hybrid car the green light.
A highly decorated leader, Toyoda received multiple honors and recognitions including the Grand Collar of the Order of Lakandula of the Philippines, which was awarded to him in 2010.
TMC confirmed that the company will hold a farewell gathering for Toyoda at a later date.
Shoichiro Toyoda is the son of Toyota’s founder (Kiichiro Toyoda) and the father of the automotive brand’s current President, Akio Toyoda.
To note, Akio Toyoda will soon be replaced by TMC’s current Operating Officer, Koji Sato.
