Toyota, Daihatsu, Suzuki develops BEV system for mini commercial vans

Toyota announced that it has developed a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) system for mini commercial electric vans together with Daihatsu and Suzuki.

The aim, Toyota said, is to create a vehicle that can fully meet the needs of customers in the delivery industry.

Per Toyota, three automotive brands leveraged each other's strengths with Suzuki and Daihatsu combining their expertise in creating small-size cars while Toyota offered its electrification technology.

Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation also participated in the planning to achieve the optimal specifications for efficient last-mile logistics.

The BEV system has an estimated range of 200 kilometers.

The three companies will each release their own versions of mini commercial vehicles built on this BEV system.

Based on photos released by Toyota, its mini commercial electric vehicle (EV) van will be named “Pixis” while Daihatsu — its subsidiary — will call its mini commercial EV van “HiJet Cargo.”

As for Suzuki, its mini commercial EV van will be dubbed “Every.”

The three abovementioned EVs will make their public debut at the ongoing exhibition event organized by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association.
