Toyota global sales drops in Apr. 2023

Toyota has encountered a slight drop in its overall global sales for April 2023.

The Japanese carmaker reported worldwide sales of 800,863 last month compared to its recorded overall automobile sales of 916,205 in March 2023.

Similarly, Toyota’s subsidiaries Daihatsu and Hino, also ran into setbacks in terms of their worldwide sales. The former sold a total of 66,010 units globally in April while the latter delivered 8,490 vehicles worldwide last month.

Their sales for the month of March were 86,205 units and 14,329 units, respectively.

Toyota also saw a dip in terms of production as the carmaker only produced 787,800 vehicles worldwide in April whereas it made 899,684 units globally in March.

Likewise, Daihatsu and Hino are singing to the same tune with the former producing 95,715 vehicles globally in April and the latter making 11,570 worldwide in the same month. Their previous production reports are 136,490 units and 16,917 units, respectively.

Nevertheless, Toyota is happy to report that the company has done well in April 2023 when compared to April 2022. Last year, Toyota sold only 763,708 cars worldwide while the Toyota-owned brand Daihatsu only sold 60,622 units globally.

Compared to last year’s April sales figures, Hino, on the other hand, saw a significant decrease from its reported 11,327 units sold in April 2022 to the 8,490 units it sold globally in April 2023.

Toyota did not cite reasons for the slight decline in sales for the brand and its subsidiaries but it can be recalled that they faced several issues in the previous months such as Hino’s rigged emission results and Daihatsu’s “absolutely unacceptable” fraudulent impact test results.
