Toyota GR Corolla expands TMP sports car stable; price starts at P3.811-M

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has expanded its Gazoo Racing stable (GR) with the addition of the GR Corolla.

Joining the Philippine-retailed GR 86, GR Yaris, and GR Supra beginning December 23, the company started accepting reservations for the vehicle in mid-November.

To recall, it was also early this month that the firm launched the bZ4X.

The latest offering from TMP can be considered as the “most ideal sports car for those with small families” as it is the sole option in the said roster with four doors.

The company just gave a sneak preview prior to the official release and here’s what we have found out about this vehicle.

Vehicle specifications

On paper, the all-new Toyota GR Corolla tapes in at:

While it should have the aesthetics comparable to the GR Yaris (since it is also a hatch) this model has some similarities with Corolla Altis.

Its front fascia features two daytime running lights hugging the projector-type headlamps, a gloss black honeycomb grille, and functioning air vents.

However, unlike the GR Yaris’, this sports car wears more subtle wheel wells.

The layout of its rear lighting system looks the same as those in front as the brake lights are around the turn signals.

Other notable portions at the hind are the blocky diffuser in gloss black, three tailpipes, a roof spoiler with third brake lamp, and a shark fin antenna.  

Meanwhile, its cabin is covered in a combination of synthetic leather and suede. The headrest of the sporty seats bears the GR logo (which can also be found in other GR models).

Other amenities that made the all-new Toyota GR Corolla a family-first car are:

• Eight beverage holders fitted around the cabin
• 12.3-inch digital display with head-up display
• Seven-inch infotainment with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity
• Type C (two) and Type A (one) charging ports

Under the hood of the Toyota GR Corolla’s hood is where you will find the 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline-fed engine (with recommended octane rating is 100 RON) in all-wheel-drive configuration that offers churns of up to:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	296
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	400

This mill can be had with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Further, the vehicle has four drive modes namely:

• Normal
• Eco
• Sport
• Gravel
• Track

Occupants are kept safe while inside the car, thanks to its myriad of Toyota Safety Sense technologies that include adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist, pre collision system, and lane departure assist.

The pricing of the Toyota GR Corolla starts at P3.811 million for the manual and P3.955 million for the automatic transmission variation.
