Will Geely bring back the Emgrand next year?

Following the recent launch of the Okavango, the executives of China automotive brand Geely did not mince words about their plans to launch another product in the future.

In fact, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) President Mikihisa Takayama said since their reintroduction in the market, they have religiously introduced two new vehicles  every year.

During the virtual presser for the launch of the Geely Okavango, Takayama said that their focus on unveiling a new model “has not changed” and that they will be releasing a new vehicle soon.

To top that, Geely Automobile International Corporation Deputy General Manager Jenny Jin was even quick to say that they will be bringing a vehicle come April 2021 and revealed that the vehicle will be a sedan.

 

On this note, we checked the Geely’s website to see what the automaker offers for the sedan body type. Turns out, there are three nameplates that are available under them: the Bo Rui, the Binray and the Emgrand.

The Bo Rui is Geely’s flagship hybrid sedan while the Binray falls under the subcompact segment, which is a hotly contested market with the Toyota Vios and Honda City holding the lion’s share of the market.

The Emgrand, could be the possible sedan that Geely will be bringing since among the three, the said badge has some recall in the market.

Before being under SGAP, the previous dealer/distributor of Geely brought in  the Geely Panda and the Emgrand.

Geely’s best-selling name, the Emgrand is available in four varieties such as the GT (with four powertrains to choose from) the GL (three drivetrain options), New Emgrand (two sub-variants) and the  Emgrand EV kind.

To note, Autochina, then distributor of Geely vehicles, brought the Emgrand name to the country with the full-size EC8 full size sedan and the EX7 mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV).
