Agri-communities in Iloilo gets paved roads

Paved Roads Benefit Agri-Communities in Iloilo - Brgy Lanit, Jaro

The municipality of Zarraga and the district of Jaro in Iloilo now enjoy improved access to agricultural products after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently concreted a pair of farm-to-market roads (FMR) in the area.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where are the newly-paved farm-to-market roads in Iloilo located?

The newly-concreted farm-to-market roads in Iloilo are in the municipality of Zarraga and the district of Jaro.
  • How much budget was allocated for the two projects?

The Barangay Inagdangan-Talibong FMR had a budget of P32.3 million while the FMR in Jaro, P10 million.
  • DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno said that the road project in Zarraga involves concreting of a 2.9-kilometer, two-lane portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) access road with slope protection from Barangay Inagdangan to Barangay Talibong.

“The concrete road will serve as a primary access in transporting products and services from farms to the market and neighboring towns, and also provide a faster and more convenient route from Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road to Iloilo-Capiz Road (new route) and vice versa,” Bueno said.

Meanwhile, DPWH Iloilo City DEO, together with the Department of Agriculture finished concreting 246-lineal meter, two-lane FMR with gravel shoulder in Jaro District.

Bueno said that the road better connects the agricultural community of Barangay Lanit to various markets in the city.

The Barangay Inagdangan-Talibong FMR had a budget of P32.3 million while the FMR in Jaro, P10 million.

The DPWH expressed firm belief that the newly-paved roads will cut down travel time and hauling costs that, in turn, will provide more income to farmers and boost agricultural development in the province.

“DPWH will continue to support the agricultural sector by implementing significant road projects that will enhance mobility and access to essential services and establishments, and help develop our rural communities,” Bueno noted.
