CALAX-Silang Interchange nears completion

The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX)-Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange (also known as Subsection 4) is nearing its completion, the Metro Pacific Tollways South (MPT South) announced.

In a statement, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) subsidiary said that the soon-to-open portion is now at 80-percent finished.

According to the tollway operator, the aforementioned section, once operational, is set to provide a crucial connection to the Aguinaldo Highway, known to be the busiest highway in Cavite.

“This development will greatly enhance travel convenience to Silang town and Tagaytay, making it easier for tourists to reach 'Instagram-ready' destinations in the province,” the company added.

The firm made the announcement after bringing back its "Envirosafe Tour" program.

Held in partnership with Acienda Designer Outlet and Henry's Cameras, an exclusive tour allowed participants to explore the current operational as well as the soon-to-open section Subsection 4 — showcasing the numerous sustainable measures that are implemented along CALAX.

Per MPT South, the operational sections of CALAX already have toll plazas that are equipped with solar panels to generate power for their own operations. 

In addition, LED fixtures are also fitted in both lighting and roadway systems, enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability measures throughout the company.

Further, the company shared its commitment to its carbon offsetting initiatives, actively involved in planting trees and creating biodiverse areas along CALAX, which come in two folds: counteracting the company's emissions and mitigating the emissions produced by customer vehicles.

The tour showcased the locations along the toll road that were utilized as green spaces.

It was in 2021 when MPT South bared its plan to convert CALAX as a "Green Highway" as part of MPTC's commitment to decarbonizing the transport sector in the Philippines. 

The move is said to be aligned with the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation's (MPIC) sustainability efforts, which are, in turn, in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Aside from CALAX, MPTC also holds concession rights for Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), its C5 Link Segment, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the NLEX Connector Road, and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu.
