MANILA: Combined vehicle sales of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) for the first half of 2026 slid down by 11.4 percent compared to their churn for the same period last year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How did the Philippine automotive market perform in the first half of 2026?

Total vehicle sales from CAMPI and TMA dropped by 11.4% in the first half of 2026, reaching 204,557 units compared to 230,912 units sold during the same period in 2025. Commercial vehicles continued to lead the market with an 80.2% share (164,054 units), while passenger cars made up the remaining 19.8% (40,503 units).
  • Which brands and vehicle types led sales during H1 2026?

Toyota Motor Philippines led overall distributor sales with 100,909 units (nearly half the market), followed by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines with 36,321 units. In terms of vehicle types, electrified vehicles (xEVs) reached 31,381 units sold (15.34% of overall sales), driven primarily by Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), which accounted for 54.64% of total xEV sales.
  • Based on the groups' joint report, their overall retail output is only at 204,557 units from January to June 2026—down from 230,912 units sold in January-June 2025.

Amid the decline, June showed the strongest monthly performance this year—selling 37,231 vehicles during the month—rising by 11 percent from 33,532 units in May. However, June sales remained eight percent lower than the 40,483 units sold in the same timeline the previous year.

Including from those not who are members of CAMPI-TMA, the overall Philippine automotive market was estimated to have sold around 42,000 new vehicles in June, representing an 18.7-percent increase from May.

CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza said last month’s results reflected a more positive outlook in approaching the second half of the year, with vehicle sales expected to surpass last year's monthly levels.

"This June, we saw sales of both ICE vehicles and xEVs (electrified vehicles) rise. Industry sales of gas and diesel cars grew by 10 percent versus May due to more stable fuel prices, while xEVs grew by 49.2 percent, thanks to improving supply levels," Atienza said.
