DPWH ready to respond typhoon-hit areas

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) expressed its readiness to respond to areas struck by Typhoon ‘Karding’ (international name Noru).

  • In a statement, the agency said that its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Teams have been put on alert in preparation since Saturday (September 24).

    Based on a report from the DPWH Bureau of Maintenance, the teams (which is made up of 8,963 personnel armed with 1,590 pieces of equipment) are tasked to monitor the state of the roads in select areas of Visayas and Luzon.

    “Our teams are prepositioned in order to quickly respond to ensure access along vital national road sections in all regions of Luzon which are expected to be hit by the typhoon, as well as in Region 6,” DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan was quoted as saying.

    The DRRM Teams have also conducted other standard protocols that include pruning of trees, declogging of drainage, and clearing of waterways along national roads.

    As of noontime yesterday (September 26), nine road became impassable due to the aforementioned weather disturbance.

    The following roads were closed to vehicular traffic:

    • Kennon Road
    • Manila North Road, K0578+800, Sitio Banquero, Brgy. Pancian, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
    • Bambang-Kasibu-Solano Road, K0266+900 Antutot Section in Nueva Vizcaya
    • NRJ-Villa Sur San Pedro- Cabuaan- Ysmael- Disimungal Road, San Pedro Overflow Bridge, K0367+786 in San Pedro, Madella, Quirino
    • Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road, K0174+300, Province of Aurora
    • Daang Maharlika Road, K0094+800, Brgy. Castellano, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija
    •  Tarlac-Sta. Rosa Road, K0115+000, Brgy. Malabon Kaingin, Jaen, Nueva Ecija
    • Concepcion-Lapaz K0131+300 in Tarlac
    • Ternate-Nasugbu Road, K0068+(-1000) K0074+622 in Cavite
