EV models boost Audi, Porsche global Q1 2022 sales

Fully electric models from Porsche and Audi helped accelerate sales for the first quarter of the year, furthering the brand’s respective electrification initiatives worldwide.

  • In a statement, PGA Cars (the country’s distributor of Porsche and Audi vehicles) shared that the combined sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) produced by the Volkswagen Group rose by 65 percent during the first three months of 2022.

    “The robust demand for BEV models of the Volkswagen Group — in which Porsche and Audi belong — has caused an order backlog of 300,000 units in Western Europe alone. Customers in Europe and the US are not expected to get their newly ordered BEV until 2023,” the company shared.

    From January to March, Porsche delivered 9,470 units of the Taycan to buyers all over the globe — reflecting a four-percent growth over the same period in 2021.

    At the same time, the Audi e-tron roster was able to roll out 24,236 units to customers around the world. The numbers showed a 66.2-percent leap compared to Q1 2021’s sales data. To note, the brand introduced more electric models than conventional cars last year, allowing its product portfolio of fully electric models to grow more than double as well.

    PGA Cars has been offering the Porsche Taycan since 2020 while the Audi e-tron SUV, e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT starting last February.

    Through its “FutureNow” program, PGA Cars made an initial investment of P300 million for the construction of facilities specifically designed and equipped to address the unique requirements and safety standards of electric vehicles. “Additional investments are earmarked to further support the domestic adoption of electric vehicles,” the local distributor of premium vehicles noted.

    Covered in the FutureNow program are the collaborations with stakeholders in establishing charging facilities in strategic destinations to complement the residential charging solutions provided by Porsche and Audi.    

    Meanwhile, SM Supermalls, started putting up charging facilities for electric vehicles in some of its malls such as SM Aura Premier, SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall and SM North EDSA, with more malls to follow soon. The use of the charging stations is free.
