Here's what happened at MIAS 2024

The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) gathers throngs of automotive enthusiasts every year. For 2024, the highly-anticipated motoring spectacle gave attendees something worth remembering after it brought together some 30 car brands and breached a visitor count of approximately 162,000.

    Omoda and Jaecoo

    Omoda and Jaecoo launched their respective offerings here in the Philippines. The former showcased the Omoda 5 internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered crossover and E5 electric car, while the latter presented the Jaecoo J7 and J8 sport utility vehicles (SUV).

    The Chinese car companies also highlighted their manufacturing prowess enticing potential car buyers to become early brand adopters.

    Astara-led brands

    Astara, on the other hand, wowed eventgoers with a robust lineup from the brands under its umbrella.

    JMC officially launched the Vigus fleet truck and the Grand Avenue lifestyle pickup. As for the JAC marque, its six-car display consisted of the JS4, JS6, JS8 Pro, T8 Pro, T9, and the Ytterby electric vehicle (EV).

    GAC excited new-energy vehicle fans with the Emkoo Hybrid while Peugeot proudly displayed the 5008 and 3008.

    BAIC

    BAIC — now under United Asia Automotive Group Incorporated (UAAGI) — returned under the spotlight and bared its bold lineup.

    On display were the BAIC B40 Ragnar, B80 Wagon, B60 Beaumont, X55 Verve, and X7 Grandeza.

    Jetour

    Holding its ground was Jetour with the handsome T2 as well as the plug-in hybrid version of the Dashing SUV.

    MG

    MG’s local arm took the breath of attending enthusiasts by showcasing a handful of cars both on the ICE and EV fronts.

    For MG’s ICE stable, models like the MG3, MG One, MG 7, RX9, G50, MG5, and ZS held the fort. Its EV lineup consisted of the ZS EV, MG EV EXPOWER, and MG Cyberster.

    Also gracing MG’s booth was the IM LS7, from the carmaker’s premium electric brand.

    Mitsubishi

    Mitsubishi also participated in the event and brought various iterations of the Triton pickup truck. One version was built as a camper to showcase the nameplate’s outdoorsy nature while another was displayed carrying a handful of tires to highlight its ability to take on commercial endeavors.

    A replica of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart’s Asia Cross Country Rally entry also stood proud on Mitsubishi’s pavilion as a testament to the Triton’s winning rally pedigree.

    Suzuki

    Not to be outdone, Suzuki also made a showing of its Philippine-market lineup.

    The off-road machines Suzuki Jimny 3 door and Jimny 5 door were present at the auto expo. Likewise, the city cars S-Presso AGS, Dzire AGS, and the mild hybrid XL7 hybrid and Ertiga Hybrid were out to prove why they should be top choices for the right car buyers.

    Nissan

    Nissan also had an amazing display at MIAS 2024 with a preview of the Ariya.

    In addition, the Japanese carmaker also flaunted some of its offerings including the GT-R and the Z.

    The brand also had a dedicated area outside of the World Trade Center Manila building, which bragged about the potential of the Nissan Urvan thanks to custom builds from Overland Kings.

    Chevrolet

    Chevrolet’s presentation as the four-day event talked about tapping markets across generations in the Philippines.

    Hyundai

    As for Hyundai, the South Korean car brand tickled the fancy of fast car connoisseurs with the N versions of the Elantra and Ioniq 5.

    The company’s motorsports-oriented sub-brand also had its formal launch in the country during MIAS 2024.

    Chery

    Chery Auto Philippines gave its fans something to look forward to with a sneek peak of the eQ7.

    Lynk and Co

    Lynk and Co, who is also under the umbrella of UAAGI made its public debut at the motoring expo.

    On top of the recently-previewed 01 and 06, Lynk and Co Philippines also showcased the 05 and 03+.

    Other spectacles

    Aside from the aforementioned launches, previews, and presentations, MIAS 2024 also had plenty of other occurances for attendees.

    One good example is Winterpine’s event-exclusive deals, Fuso Philippine’s free shuttle services, the launch of Tuason Racing’s Gulf Oil Top Driver Challenge, AC Delco’s latest brake products, BPI’s MIAS-only offerings, and the roll out of the country’s first and only motor oil in a seven-liter packaging from Repsol.
