Here's What's Really In-Store for the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is set to inaugurate the PHP2.3-billion Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) this coming November, but we’ve only skimmed through the surface of what this important terminal really has in-store for commuters.

Did you know that aside from becoming a "transport point for provincial and in-city transportation, covering busy thoroughfares in the EDSA, Baclaran, and Taft areas," the PITX will also be a commercial and business center? Here are some interesting things you should know about it:

It’s part of the DOTr's planned three intermodal terminals.

The PITX is a flagship project of DOTr, and the first among the three they plan to complete in the future.

Its developer is  MWM Terminals Inc.

MWM Terminals Inc. won the 35-year concession for PITX last 2015. It's a consortium that also includes Megawide, a leading infrastructures conglomerate in the Philippines, and Waltermart, the "first community shopping center format in Southern Luzon."

The PITX will be an all-in-one terminal.

What makes the PITX an ambitious project is because the government wants it to be a "one-stop interconnected stop for different transport modes and services." It will serve as a transport hub that will "connect passengers from Cavite to inner Metro Manila, through seamless interconnectivity between different modes of transportation such as buses, taxis, PUVs, PUJs, and a link to LRT 1 South Extension."

It comes with a centralized ticketing system that allows you to book in advance and print the tickets online, public information displays, and a Terminal Management System.

What's more, the PITX also has bus operator facilities designed to "address the needs of bus drivers and staff. These include facilities such as an entertainment and resting lounge, washrooms, and a canteen."

The PITX will be a commercial hub.

There will be areas dedicated for retailers, plus a food court and parking spaces for customers. The entire commercial area is estimated to have an average footfall of 100,000 daily, with night-time workers and leisure travelers making up most of the passengers who will use the terminals.

The PITX will be a business center.

It will offer five floors of premier office spaces, with typical floor plates of around 3,200 square meters. There will be an approximately 72,000 square meters of Gross Leasable Areas and around four elevators per tower. Businesses and multiple tenants "can subdivide floors into several spaces for maximum occupancy."

Now, commuters have a more convenient and closer proximity when going to work.

So there you have it--an ambitious project that's really promising in scope. Remember that it's just one of the three intermodal terminals that the government plans to build. We hope they'll add more in years to come.
