Joyride Holds Biker Registration

Aspiring Kasundo bikers eyeing to join the motorcycle-hailing app JoyRide trooped at the biker registration event held over the weekend in Manila. The bikers’ registration event held at Liwasang Bonifacio, Padre Burgos Avenue, Magallanes Street, Ermita, Manila was made to complete the cap of 10,000 riders allocated by the Department of Transportation and technical working group on motorcycle taxis (TWG) for every motorcycle taxi company. However, the said event was organized, not of Joyride, but of Quezon City-based riders group Gladiators. Hundreds of Kasundo bikers went on a motorcade coming from Welcome Rotonda going to Liwasang Bonifacio before the start of the registration. The mass registration for Joyride started at around 7AM and ended at 11AM Sunday. As of December 2019, JoyRide has signed up 6,907 bikers that were already registered with TWG to participate in the ongoing extended pilot run implementation. At least 1,800 riders and counting are on the road after going through the onboarding process. Drivers and passengers are insured up to P500,000 each. Earlier, Noli Eala, Vice president of Corporate Affairs for Joyride has expressed confidence that they will reach the cap of 10,000 bikers in Metro Manila and 3,000 riders in Cebu by February. According to Moises Gomez, senior representative of Quezon City Gladiators, they invited JoyRide to hold their biker’s registration to push for the legalization of motorcycle taxi hailing app in the country. “We want them to give them [the riders> a chance. We chose Manila because it is the center, capital. Malaki ang lugar, para yung mga gusto maging rider madali lang sa kanila kasi nasa sentro. Plano rin namin magorganize ng ganito sa other cities of Metro Manila,” Gomez said. Gomez said Quezon City Gladiators organized the event and invited JoyRide and Move It to hold their registration event in the nation’s capital. However, Move It declined their invitation. “Ang gusto namin mangyari matuloy itong pinaplano ng LTFRB na magkaroon tayo ng motorcycle taxi, mangyayari lang to kung magiging maayos ang datos ng technical working group. Para mas maayos ang report ng TWG, kailangan maraming players ang magjoin kasi hindi naman maganda kung ang isusubmit mo ay manggagaling sa isang grupo siyempre ipapasa mo yan sa Congress dapat maayos para maisabatas na ito,” Gomez said. He also underscored that other stakeholders should comply with the extended pilot run program of the government to continue in officially operating motorcycle taxis in the country. “Kapag naipasa ito sa Kongreso, maraming tao ang makikinabang hindi lang iisang tao kasi grabe na talaga ang traffic ngayon sa Metro Manila kaya lang lahat ng sasali dito sa pilot run study ng  technical working group dapat maging compliant sila, strict sila sa guidelines at saka sa direktiba ng LTFRB,” he said.   Also read: MC Taxi TWG to LCSP: Nothing Irregular with Study
