MMDA eyes twice-a-week number coding scheme for private vehicles

The leadership of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is targeting to implement a new number coding scheme that will affect private vehicles twice a week.

    Below is the schedule on the proposed system:

    • Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 and 2: Monday and Wednesday
    • Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 3 and 4: Monday and Thursday
    • Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 5 and 6: Tuesdays and Thursdays
    • Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 7 and 8: Tuesday and Friday
    • Vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0: Wednesday and Friday

    Romando Artes

    Artes said that the scheme, once approved by the Metro Manila mayors, will be implemented along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and other major thoroughfares. Motorcycles as well as public utility vehicles such as bus, jeepneys, taxis, and transport network vehicle services (TNVS) are exempted from the measure.

    Meanwhile, the National Capital Region (NCR) as well as other areas in the country has remained under Alert Level 1 until the end of the month.
