MMDA, LTO says single ticketing system pilot run implementation ‘smooth’

MMDA, LTO, MMC on single ticketing system

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Land Transportation Office (LTO) both reported that the first few days of operation of the single ticketing system (STS) went well and produced positive feedback.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What cities in Metro Manila implemented the single ticketing system?

The system was implemented in San Juan, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, and Quezon City.
  • What are the adjustments that will be made to the system in the coming days?

The adjustments on the single ticketing covers training of traffic personnel on the use of new gadgets, distribution of handheld devices, and body cameras.
  • MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes said that the pilot run implementation in the five cities — namely San Juan, Parañaque, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, and Quezon City — had no major issues, concerns, or complaints.

Our focus now is on some adjustments that must be made in the coming days. So far, we are doing good," Artes shared.

Per the MMDA chief, the adjustments that are to be conducted are more on the training of traffic personnel on the use of new gadgets, distribution of handheld devices, and body cameras.

"Digital handheld devices have already been procured and are now being customized for use by LGUs. This month, we will begin the distribution to LGUs, initially in the five cities where the STS was rolled out," Artes explained.

For the LTO’s part, Regional Director Noreen San Luis-Lutey echoed the MMDA’s sentiments, saying that most of the issues encountered are related to familiarity with the system — which the executive say is acceptable since this is the first time to be implemented.

Other glitches that were encountered include the uploading of information of violations, access to the portal, activation of online payment systems, among others.

"We will continue to get feedback and look for ways to improve the system," Lutey noted.

San Juan Mayor and Metro Manila Council (MMC) President Francis Zamora also shared that the pilot run of the STS in San Juan City was smooth.

"Driver’s licenses are not just confiscated anymore; there is a uniform set of fines imposed for the 20 most common traffic violations in Metro Manila, and there is the option for online payment of fines. We are excited with the development and rolling out of STS to other cities," said Zamora.
