MMDA restores truck ban

MMDA-GCQ-announcement

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced today the implementation of the truck ban on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila starting May 17, 2021.

According to the agency, trucks are banned from traversing along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila managed by the MMDA, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Below are areas where the current truck ban is implemented based on MMDA’s existing truck ban ordinance. You can check the full details here

  • España Street through Quezon Avenue from Echague Street to the intersection of West and South Avenue;
  • Claro M. Recto Avenue from Legarda St. to del Pan Street;

A total truck ban is enforced along EDSA, from Magallanes Interchange in Makati City to North Avenue in Quezon City, 24 hours from Monday to Sunday, said MMDA.

Meanwhile, trucks carrying perishable and agricultural foodstuff are exempted from the ban.

Furthermore, any person who violates the provisions of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of P2,000. Drivers who are apprehended three times shall receive a recommendation for suspension of one year from the MMDA.

The enforcement of the truck ban was prompted by President Duterte’s approval of the IATF’s recommendation to place NCR Plus (Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite) under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions from May 15-31.
