MPTC reports data breach

Metro Pacific Tollway Corporation’s (MPTC) systems have been hacked, which may have potentially compromised data linked to its customers.

The tollway firm announced recently through a social media post uploaded on the company’s official Facebook account, that it was “investigating a potential data breach.”

MPTC noted that the said security breach has affected its systems and on a later post noted that “some user accounts may have been accessed and possibly compromised.”

Nevertheless, the toll company ensured its customers that its cybersecurity team was working to identify the extent of the potential breach and ensure the security of its clients and that the toll wallet balances of Easytrip account holders were intact and secure.

Account holders who were affected by the data breach — MPTC noted — will be contacted.

To note, the somewhat timely breach in MPTC’s systems followed the signing of a Joint Memorandum Circular that penalizes toll road users with no radio frequency identification sticker toll payment systems or with insufficient balances by the Department of Transportation, Land Transportation Office, and Toll Regulatory Board.
