Pilipinas Shell to honor frontliners anew on National Heroes Day

Local oil giant Pilipinas Shell is set to salute the country’s frontliners anew as we celebrate National Heroes Day on Monday (August 31).

The gesture is the latest initiative from the company with the second biggest fuel station-network to extend positivity to fellowmen. Last June, Pilipinas Shell launched some initiatives to spark hope in Filipinos during the Philippine Independence Day celebration.

Pilipinas Shell Vice President for Retail Randy Del Valle said that they want to honor the modern-day heroes “who play a vital role in this unprecedented time of uncertainty.”

“The Filipino resilience and our bayanihan spirit have seen us through our toughest times as a people—and working together as one, we can win back our lives, bring healing to the most vulnerable among us, and restart our economy, “Del Valle said.

On Monday, every time a medical frontliner fuels up at Shell stations, Shell employees attending to him/her will place their hands on their chest as gesture of gratitude and encouragement.

Frontliner customers are encouraged to honk their car horns and make the traditional military salute in return.

“Our doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals have shown us the way by their unwavering example in courage and selflessness. They are our modern-day heroes—and it is only just that we honor them during National Heroes Day,” Del Valle said.

Aside from that, they are also ensuring that Shell Helix Oil change + Lube Bays act as hubs for maintenance and disinfection where vehicles can be rechecked, recalibrated, and cleansed. Motorists can also get free car interior sanitation services when they avail of the oil change package.

Kaya natin sumulong. We are a courageous people, and we can move forward despite the challenges we see before us,” Del Valle maintained.

Aside from the medical workers, Pilipinas Shell also honors other frontliners, such as farmers who are working for the continuous supply of food to the people.

Through Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI), Pilipinas Shell runs the Para sa Bayani (For Our Heroes) program—to help farmers with the creation of livelihood, and the production of crops and other food items.

Para Sa Bayani is composed of three other projects:

  • Ani Para sa Bayani (Harvest for Our Heroes),
  • Tulong Para sa Bayani (Help for Our Heroes), and
  • Proteksyon Para sa Bayani (Protection for Our Heroes).

The Ani Para sa Bayani program, focuses on the regular supply of crops to MAYANI, an online platform that delivers fresh vegetables and fruits to customers as well as providing health workers in Metro Manila nutritious meals.

The Tulong Para sa Bayani program has also already dished out 11,750 relief packages to the displaced workers and their families based in Shell’s areas of operation.

Lastly, Proteksyon Para sa Bayani is mainly equipping frontliners after being given with around 8,000 personal protective equipment (PPE). This was done through the existing partnership with SIBBAP Multipurpose Cooperative, who previously sew school uniforms and eco bags—now producing face masks, face shields, and PPEs.

Drumrolled by the National Heroes Day campaign, customers will also be given one kilo of rice every time they purchase either single or accumulated purchase of Shell V-Power Fuels worth P1,500 or Shell FuelSave Fuels worth P2,000 starting September 1-30. Transactions must be cash, credit card, or mobile transactions to avail of the free one kilo rice.

Moreover, Del Valle said that they will continue to find more solutions to support customers, especially frontliners, while encouraging everyone to do their own share of good deeds.

Susulong at susulong tayong mga mamamayang Pilipino,” Del Valle affirmed. “Every day we live can be a day that we make a stand and a choice to fight back and prevail. All of us can be champions. That is how we will overcome this pandemic, and forge a brighter future for ourselves, our families, and our country.”
