Toyota Japan to adjust domestic production

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the world in more ways than one. Because of  the current market and the change in demand of new vehicles globally, Japanese automaker Toyota is re-calibrating their rulebook.

The company intends to continually make gradual adjustments in production operations at plants for completed vehicles in Japan.

"We estimate the production volume will be recovered up to approximately ten percent decrease compared to the initial plan," Toyota said in a press release.

"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our suppliers and people in those regions."

Last June, the company cut their production by 40 percent, and  continues to plan to cut 10 percent more by July. 

The further decline on the demand for vehicles has also caused Toyota Japan to start suspending production lines.

This June, Toyota has already shut down 25 production lines at 14 plants for 133 days. By July, the Japanese automaker plant to suspend six production lines at three assembly plants for 16 days. 

Aside from this, three production lines at two of its plants will only operate on a single shift starting July. 

Last April, the company's total domestic car output in  declined by 26 percent on the year by 218,054 units.
