Volvo Reveals All-New XC40

Volvo XC40

Scandinavian Motors Corporation, the authorized importer of premium Swedish marque Volvo Cars, has unveiled the all-new Volvo XC40 to welcome the summer in the Philippines.

Powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed geartronic automatic transmission, the new Volvo XC40 can deliver 252 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

It can accelerate 0-100 kph at 6.2 seconds, with a top speed of 225 kph and has combined fuel consumption of 16.2 kilometers per liter.

The unveiling was headed byAtty. Alberto B. Arcilla, Volvo Philippines' President & CEO, together with Anette E. Andersson, Volvo Cars APEC Region, Market Area Director.

Before making its grand reveal at Sofitel Philippine Plaza, it already has earned feathers to its cap. The premium subcompact crossover was awarded as the European Car of the Year and Japan Car of the Year last year.

The new XC40 is said to be developed with award-winning safety, connectivity, and infotainment technologies known from Volvo's acclaimed new 90- and 60-Series SUVs.

The said model also first showed some skin last year at the Lifestyle Asia Power Gala.

Håkan Samuelsson, Volvo Cars president and chief executive, said that the latest offer is the "first car in this rapidly growing segment and has a clear focus on navigating today’s hectic city environments."

"Building on Volvo's heritage as the leader in safety, the new XC40 will offer the best possible safety standards combined with an easy-to-use interface and convenient connected services," Volvo Cars' head honcho said.

The new XC40 is Volvo's first car out on its new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and includes a range of groundbreaking technologies first introduced in its 90- and 60 Series siblings based on Volvo's larger Scalable Product Architecture (SPA).

Volvo's approach to safety and user experience builds on a philosophy it calls the Circle of Life: a constant improvement of standards and technologies, based on consumer insights and real life data.

Meanwhile, Arcilla mentioned during the launch that the Volvo XC40 will soon be offered with a petrol-hybrid variant.

However, with the recent introduction in the market, the hybrid offering could be delivered by around first quarter next year.
