What we know about the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Toyota has been stingy with sharing the specifics about the 2022 Toyota Tundra. Yet, in a recent press release, the Japanese carmaker said that the Tundra will set the bar for comfort, convenience, and luxury.

Along with the press material released by Toyota is a picture collage showing the features that might point out to the automaker’s claim.

First, let’s talk comfort.

In the picture is a perforated seat with “TRD Pro” stitching and what looks to us is a camouflage accent. The perforation on the seats, which extends to the bolsters on the side, is most likely for ventilation. The headrest seems bulky enough to keep you comfortable during short and long rides.

By the looks of it, the TRD Pro seats might only be available for both the driver and the front passenger.

Next, let’s look at convenience.

A picture of what most likely is a wireless phone charger is shown which features a holder is okay. But, we’re pretty sure it’s not going to win the 2022 Tundra any awards. At least you don't have to worry about your phone rolling over the center console when you’re charging while driving.

A small detail we’ve noticed though is the shift knob at the left-side of the wireless charging pad. Word on the web says that the 2022 Tundra will come with a 10-speed gearbox and will replace the six-speed trannies of the 2021 year model.

Lastly, let’s look at capability.

On the photo is a rotary dial of what we can make out as the Multi-Terrain Select (MTS). Visible is the Tow Haul mode and the DAC / Crawl mode.

This means that Toyota’s new truck can haul heavier loads which makes it a good choice for customers who also use their vehicles as light workhorses. Meanwhile, Crawl mode regulates the throttle and the brakes for optimum off-road driving.

What the pictures reveal doesn’t really break any records for the Tundra. At least for now. Toyota admits that further updates are to be revealed as the 2020 Tundra nears its release at the latter part of the year.

We're still hoping that it eventually makes its way to the Philippines.
