New cars in NCR
Metro Manila had over 2.3 million registered vehicles in 2012, according to the data of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA). Of that number some 400,000 privately owned vehicles and another 409,000 jeepneys and FX taxis used NCR’s longest and most congested road- the Epifanio De los Santos Avenue (EDSA), as well as other major roads in the city.
About 6,087 commuter buses use EDSA daily, with an additional 61,000 trucks and trailers also using the Avenue, according to the same report.
New models to look out for in 2014
Awarded the car of the year title by the Car Awards Group Inc., the Mazda 6 executive sedan promises to be a magnet for car enthusiasts. The Mazda 6 has two editions: the Two Wheel Drive PRO with CRX-5 2.0 Liter engine and the All Wheel Drive Sport with CX-5 2.5 Liter engine.
Toyota is offering a redesign of the beloved Toyota Corolla, now with an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) that allows it to automatically change gear system. Some of the other changes are a new aerodynamic design, a multi-display dashboard, and eight standard airbags. The new Corolla has a fuel economy of 15 km/L in highway conditions.
Other offerings from the leading car manufacturer in the Philippines are: the Toyota Yaris, a sedan whose appearance and specifications are identical to the Vios’s and the Toyota Wigo, a subcompact car.
Honda’s secret is out. The new Honda Jazz has two engine configurations; a 1.3 Liter and 1.5 Liter, both with direct-injection technology. The hatchback automobile has an optional paddle equipped CVT.
A hurricane is on the way in 2014 and the Gallardo has a new successor. The Huracán is a performance car with a powerful 5.2 Liter V8 engine capable of producing 610 horsepower. It can also accelerate from 0-100 in just 3.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 325 km/h.
Ford has finally released its most awaited green mini SUV, the Ford EcoSport, that promises to be fuel efficient. Car buyers will also like the optional 1.5L and 1.0L Ecoboost engines. Amazingly, even SUVs can now have an engine capacity under 2.0 Liters. Another model up for grabs this year is the towering Ford Everest which was based on the Ford Ranger.
