4 Possible Uses for Your Car’s Roof Rack

Roof racks are a common accessory found on many modern vehicles such as crossovers and SUVs. These are extremely useful additions with plenty of great uses, which unfortunately, are often rarely discussed. Perhaps it’s because roof racks have no direct effect on a car’s functions, and their location puts them in an ‘out of sight, out of mind’ kind of deal. Nevertheless, should time come when you need them, know that they allow you a multitude of uses. Below are just four examples.

Luggage

Going to the province on a holiday? Any extended trip will require a significant amount of luggage, and anything that won’t fit in your boot space can be placed on your roof rack. Make sure to your luggage is adequately fastened, and cover it up with a cargo net for added safety.

Bicycle

You will need to equip your roof rack with a bike carrier for this function. Bike carriers are sold by many aftermarket accessory vendors everywhere. Be sure to read the manual to keep your bikes safe and secure during travel.

Awning

Transform your vehicle into your home-away-from home with an awning. This is especially convenient if you go on frequent outdoor treks and trips. Simply attach an awning to your roof rack, extend it out, and voila, an instant shaded area for you to sit back and relax on a warm sunny day.

Boards

Surfboards are often too lengthy for the vehicle cabin, and so naturally you’ll have to place them up top on a roof rack for transport. Just make sure that the board doesn’t obstruct your view of the road. Check your line of sight before leaving, and reposition your cargo in a way that won’t impair your vision if you have to.

Final word

When transporting cargo on your rooftop, you don’t want it to become a safety risk to you and your fellow road users, so maintain a manageable speed when driving, and check the stability of your cargo occasionally throughout your trip.
