CAMPI-TMA Aug. 2023 YTD sales improve by 30%
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) enjoyed an almost 30-percent increase in their sales for the full eight months of 2023.

The two groups handed over 36,714 units to clients in August 2023.Based on their joint report, the two groups sold 276,215 vehicles in January-August 2023 — which is 29.8-percent more in comparison to the 212,872 examples delivered to customers during the same period last year.
Additionally, CAMPI-TMA reported that last August (which is usually considered a “lean month”), CAMPI-TMA also retailed 36,714 vehicles to clients —a 21.6 percent rise over the same month last year. However, the same number showed a one-percent dip compared to the 37,086-unit retail performance last July.
The commercial vehicle segment continues to hold the biggest share in the overall output. A total of 205,764 units were handed over to customers in January-August 2023, cornering nearly three-fourths of the entire year-to-date sales. The said number reflected a 28-percent rise over the 160,790 units garnered under the same timeline last year.
On the other hand, the passenger car segment was able to sell 70,451 units from January to August this year (which is 25.51 percent of the total CAMPI-TMA overall sales.
“The auto industry is mindful of the challenges brought by high inflation and its effect on the overall consumer confidence particularly for big-ticket items – not a welcome news to the consumers and industry alike if it will persist,” CAMPI President Rommel Gutierrez.
“Nonetheless, the 276,215 units year-to-date sales of CAMPI-TMA, up by 30 percent from the same period a year ago – equivalent to 70 percent of the 395,000 sales forecast is certainly giving optimism of a sustained and even stronger post-pandemic recovery for the auto industry”, he added.
Still leading the sales thrust for the two groups is Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) with 126,795 units sold. The company was able to corner 45.90 percent of the overall retail output of the two groups.
Behind TMP is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with 50,439 vehicles delivered to buyers and Ford Motor Philippines with 19,700 units rolled out to customers.
In fourth and fifth spots are Nissan Philippines (17,873 units) and Suzuki Philippines Incorporated with 11,821 units.
