DPWH to partially open BGC-Ortigas Bridge in May

The Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge, a major component of the BGC-Ortigas Road Link Project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is set to partially open this May.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, the superstructure that will connect Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta Monica Street in Pasig City is already completed. With only a few finishing touches, the DPWH will partially open the BGC-Ortigas bridge, giving motorists access to Bonifacio Global City and the business districts in Ortigas by the second quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil Sadain said that on top of the final details to be added at the Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge, UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1 is also working on the rehabilitation and widening of Brixton Street (corner Reliance Street) to Fairlane Street.

The undersecretary conducted an inspection of the four-lane two-way bridge together with UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1 (UPMO-RMC 1) Project Director Virgilio C. Castillo, Project Managers Benjamin A. Bautista and Ricarte S. Manalac, and Engr Reynaldo S.L. Perez of Persan Construction.

Included in the project covering Lawton Avenue to the entrance of BGC is the construction of the Lawton Avenue-Global City Viaduct with on-going preparation for bored piling at BGC and road widening at 8th Avenue.

The 1.367-kilometer Bonifacio Global City-Ortigas Center Link Road Project is part of the Metro Manila Logistics Infrastructure Network which aims to make the usual one-hour-long drive between the BGC and Ortigas business districts to only 12 minutes.

Upon its completion in September of 2021, the entire project looks to improve accessibility among the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Taguig, and Makati, and alleviate traffic congestion at EDSA and C-5.
