Hyundai Tucson sales breach 1 million units in US

Hyundai achieves yet another milestone in the American market after the brand announced that its popular Tucson SUV just surpassed one million units in sales.

The feat is made even more impressive by the fact that the car entered the US a mere 16 years ago, in 2004, taking just three short generations to manage the impressive the impressive sales number.

“Within Hyundai's formidable SUV line-up, the Tucson is our strongest selling SUV model, with April retail sales up 7% year-over-year,” according to Hyundai Motor America (HMA). “As of April 2020, more than two-thirds of all Hyundais sold were SUVs — reflecting the growing popularity of our SUV line-up with US consumers.”

“Throughout its 16-year history, the Tucson SUV has represented outstanding quality, durability and efficiency, but Hyundai customers say it best,” the company added.

Starting life as an entry-level SUV, the Tucson has evolved into a stylish, feature-rich people hauler that boasts an exquisitely sculpted exterior, well-equipped cabin, and all-around reliable performance.

The US-spec Tucson offers a choice between a 2.4-liter and 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engines and comes in either a front- or all-wheel-drive configuration. Even the base models come with upmarket features, including automated emergency braking, lane keeping assist, and a seven-inch color touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Each of the Tucson’s generations has achieved no less than a 4.8 stars (out of five) on, HMA reveals.

As for the Philippine-version Hyundai Tucson, the crossover SUV is also available in two engine types. One is a 2.0-liter MPi gas mill (153hp, 192Nm), and the other is a 2.0-liter CRDi diesel (182hp, 402Nm). Sporting the brand’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design theme, the Hyundai Tucson is easily one of the more handsome options you can find in the market today.

Of course, good looks aren’t the only thing that this Kona's bigger sibling has going for it. An advanced high-strength steel body also makes it one of the safest SUVs around. Combined with other advanced systems such as electronic stability control, rear parking assist system, and rear camera with dynamic guidelines (diesel variants only), and you’ve got an SUV that offers true peace of mind.

The Hyundai Tucson sold locally comes in four variants and retails from P1.368 million to P1.885 million  depending on trim.
