The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced its readiness to assist the public as it is currently on red alert as Typhoon Karding (International name: Noru) batters the country.

  • MMDA Acting Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III said that the agency is ready to deploy its personnel and emergency vehicles to assist the public at the onset of the typhoon in the National Capital Region (NCR).

    He also monitored the situation in various areas in Metro Manila at the Metrobase to ensure that all CCTV cameras are working.

    "I've created Task Force Karding headed by Mr.  Aldo Mayor, Chief of MMDA Public Safety Division, which has 50 frontline personnel ready to be deployed any time,” Dimayuga said. The group have been prepared with equipment for Water Rescue, Search, Rescue, and Retrieval (SRR), and 78 water purifiers.

    Further, the MMDA assured that all of the 71 pumping stations in Metro Manila are fully operational to mitigate flooding.

    The agency shared that under the red alert, the agency will implement a "no day off, no leave" policy for its frontline personnel especially those involved in emergency response.

    Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) over the weekend advised all Roll on-Roll Off (RORO) Public Utility Buses to suspend their trips.

    “Bus operators are instructed to attend to the needs of their passengers specially those who are already stranded in the ports,” the LTFRB posted in its Facebook page.

    Passengers are also advised not to attempt to travel if the weather conditions is still bad.

    Reports told that as of 5 a.m., the western portion of Pangasinan as well as the Northern and Central section of Zambales are on Typhoon Signal number 3. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, northern part of Quezon, as well as portions of Bataan and Laguna are on signal number 1.
