MPT Mobility pushes for sustainability anew with NLEX Drive and Dine's ‘Shoot that bottle’ program

Shoot that bottle

NLEX Drive and Dine has launched its latest innovative solution that would make the recycling of single single-use plastic bottles more fun.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When did NLEX Drive and Dine launch the Shoot that bottle program?

The recycling initiative was launched on October 28, 2022.
  • Who attended the program's official launch?

NLEX Road Warriors Asi Taulava, Earl Clark, Matt Nieto and Anthony Semerad as well as Valenzuela Representative Eric Martinez, Valenzuela Councilor Niña Lopez, Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian’s Chief-of-Staff Benjie Gamaro, Valenzuela Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja’s Chief-of-Staff Lot Marcelino, Boysen’s Rainier Paywan, and MPTC Chief Corporate Governance and Risk Officer Atty. Cynthia Maria Casino were present at the event.
  • In a statement, the company under MPT Mobility said that the initiative called “Shoot that bottle” is aimed at promoting proper disposal of garbage in an enjoyable way by installing colorful hoops at trash bins. This is expected to encourage people in the area to throw their empty bottles properly.

Prior to the latest thrust, the toll service facility along North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) southbound has been collecting 80 kilograms of empty plastic bottles per month.

“Plastic waste mismanagement is one of the country’s ongoing problems which needs to be addressed on a regular basis. Every small action can contribute to a greater impact that is why MPT Mobility supports NLEX Drive and Dine in their initiative. ‘Shoot that bottle’ will help remind people of the importance of recycling and being kinder to the environment,” MPT Mobility President and General Manager Rodrigo Franco said.

According to the firm, the “Shoot that bottle” initiative began last October 28 to solidify its commitment to a more sustainable future. The event display had a commitment wall where the MPT Mobility members and stakeholders from Valenzuela City government signed and declared their support for the project’s overall vision.

The setup came with the fruition of Drive and Dine’s partnership with Boysen Knoxout, the first air purifying paint in the world with a photocatalytic technology that uses light energy to break down toxic air pollutants and convert them into harmless substances. Boysen Knoxout brought color and life to the hoop installation, pavement, and wall murals.

NLEX Road Warriors namely Asi Taulava, Earl Clark, Matt Nieto, and Anthony Semerad joined the call for a greener and more environment friendly NLEX Drive and Dine by having shooting competition on the garbage bins.

Representatives from various local government units (LGU) and partners were also present that day. Among the attendees were Valenzuela Representative Eric Martinez; Valenzuela Councilor Niña Lopez; Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian’s Chief-of-Staff Benjie Gamaro; Valenzuela Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja’s Chief-of-Staff Lot Marcelino; Boysen’s Rainier Paywan; and MPTC Chief Corporate Governance and Risk Officer Atty. Cynthia Maria Casino.

Further, MPT Mobility shared that the recycling proceeds under the “Shoot that bottle” campaign will be used to buy basketball boards that will be donated to select communities for recreational and recycling awareness purposes.

To note, the NLEX Drive and Dine — being a facility that houses a diverse mix of retail, outlet, and leisurely establishments — has become a go-to destination for comfort and convenience for the motoring public and the adjacent expressway communities. It has an average daily foot traffic count of over 23,000, as well as an average daily vehicle count of over 7,000 on regular days and over 10,000 during peak seasons.
