Porsche, Audi EV models can now charge for free at Uptown Mall BGC

PGA Cars announced that owners of the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron can now juice up their vehicles at Uptown Mall in Taguig City.

In a statement, the country’s distributor of Porsche and Audi vehicles shared that the launch of the establishment's charging facility was designed to highlight Megaworld Lifestyle Malls’ partnership with several government agencies, including the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

During the official unveiling, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista described the initiative as a “huge step toward greener energy and the adoption of more sustainable and eco-friendly practices in (the) vehicle and transportation industries.”

Located at Basement 2, the electric vehicle (EV) charging station features a pair of 22-kilowatt chargers with plugs for the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron range that can be used for free. According to PGA, owners of the aforementioned models only need to pay the regular parking fees.

“Major retail groups and property developers are certainly in an ideal position to give consumers access to a network of charging stations, complementing the residential and mobile charging solutions provided with the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron,” PGA Cars Planning Director Christopher Chan said in his speech at the event.

To bolster the company’s thrust on local electric vehicle usage, PGA Cars is forming strategic alliances with institutions in both the public and private sectors that share its vision.

“By setting up suitable charging facilities, corporations like Megaworld are helping create an ecosystem for fully electric vehicles. Clearly, this shows a commitment to fostering the adoption of sustainable mobility in the country, as well as ensuring a cleaner future for all. And this future starts now,” Chan said. 

PGA Cars started offering EV models in 2020 with introduction of the Porsche Taycan and accelerated its efforts by offering the Audi e-tron SUV, e-tron Sportback, e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT.

The vehicle distributor shared that “the Taycan and the e-tron range are the best-selling fully electric models locally.”

Moreover, PGA Cars has invested more than P300 million for infrastructure and personnel development focused on EV, “with additional outlay earmarked to further support their adoption.” Alongside the commitment is the company’s aim to eventually adopt carbon-neutral processes in its operations.
