SUVs with the Best Riding Comfort

Let's face it--not all SUVs provide a lot of comfort on normal roads. Many are made to have firmer suspensions that can withstand bumpy or rugged terrains, so driving on smoother roads feel a bit too "firm." The result is you feel every small pothole or bump easily.

Truth is, we tend to side with sedans when it comes to comfort, since their low center of gravity makes them handle way better than SUVs. Many also have softer suspensions that greatly absorb the impact of small bumps or potholes, so the ride is smoother and less jarring on highways.

Still, there are some SUVs that--with more advanced technology and design--can almost drive like (or even drive better than) a sedan. These vehicles include the following:

2017 Land Rover Range Rover

No one does comfort better than a Land Rover Range Rover SUV. In fact, it can even put some sedans to shame, with its extra smooth ride, great handling and powerful engine. You might even forget it's an SUV when you're riding inside its all-leather interior and tri-zone automatic climate control.

No terrain is out of bounds when it comes this vehicle, and your ride will be so refined that it makes you wonder if it's really an SUV or a sedan having a major growth spurt--or both.

Sadly, LRPhils Motors, Inc., its distributor in the Philippines, has shut down last May 2017. Still, there are used Land Rovers that are still available today, so it's not totally goodbye for this excellent SUV.

2017 Honda CR-V

We're not surprised that  this car's comfortable, since it's meant to be entirely that. "CR-V” stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," so is it any wonder why it's here on our list? Still, it continues to evolve and get better with each generation.

The Honda CR-V now offers fewer vibrations and less noise inside the cabin. And you won't get enough of its supportive seats that offer great back support. Also, body roll is more controlled, and handling has improved despite a firm suspension. Steering doesn't need a lot of corrections when you drive on highways, making it less cumbersome to use when driving on long, out-of-town trips with your friends and family.

2017 Volvo XC90

The Volvo XC90 has won numerous awards for simply being such a capable car through and through.  And there's no denying that it's luxuriously comfortable inside. The XC90 has one of the most comfortable front seats, with cushioned padding, seat adjustment, and padded elbow cushions to rest your arms on while driving its smooth, perfectly sculpted, leather-bound steering wheel.

This car has a deft handling that makes for a refined ride. It's rooted firmly on the ground, making its suspension soak up all those irritating bumps and holes on the road. You won't feel any body rolls either, even when you're driving on long, narrow, and winding roads. It's perfect for a car chase scene in a James Bond movie.

2017 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 is the first compact crossover that features the new KODO 'Soul of Motion' design language. It offers great performance, a supple ride, and sporty handling that's not really typical for a normal SUV--and it does these things very well. What's more, its overhauled design is worth admiring as well.

This car, together with its big brother the CX-9, should be on your top list of SUVs to consider if comfort is your first priority. They have been getting a lot of good reviews from many Filipino car enthusiasts for a long time already, and we can hazard a guess that they’ll continue to impress us in the coming generations ahead.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

They call the Jeep "unrivaled" for a reason. And yes, it more than lives up to it. The Jeep Grand Cherokee can crawl over jagged rocks and slopes like a proud mountain goat. In fact, it once set a Guinness Record for climbing the highest altitude by trekking Chile's Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano on Earth.

But the best part is it also offers utmost driving comfort on the road, with its updated steering and suspension. The interior is also sublime, and its Capri leather-trimmed heated seats make driving around traffic-infested roads less stressful and even relaxing. Once you climb in, you'll forget that this car is a direct descendant of the original military jeep model.
