In April, Toyota unveiled the bZ4X BEV. The previous Shanghai Auto Show saw the concept version of the Japanese carmaker’s electrified offerings where the bZ4X BEV led the lineup.

Today, Toyota drops the details of the upcoming medium-segment SUV-type BEV.

At the front end, the bZ4X will feature a large hammerhead shark-like shape that will run from the hood to the top of the headlamps and aerodynamic elements on the front bumper.

The side profile will feature sleek proportions that take advantage of the long wheelbase. Selected models will have a solar panel installed on the roof while others will have a panoramic roof.

At the rear will be rear combination lamps, a back door, and a bumper that will sport a trapezoidal theme that completes the bZ4X BEV’s powerful stance.

Inside will be a Formula 1-inspired steering wheel with various controls to the SUV’s many functions. Taking center stage is a large infotainment screen that will feature cloud navigation. According to Toyota, it will use map information on the cloud to obtain traffic information and parking space.

In addition, BEV specialized services such as driving support, charging station display, driving support display, and driving range display can be displayed on the infotainment screen.

Other features available on the infotainment system include enhanced voice-recognition function, wireless over-the-air software updates, and a digital key (on selected models) that will allow owners to lock, unlock, and start the system using a smartphone.

To promote a spacious, quiet, and relaxing space, Toyota says that the bZ4X will have an upholstered instrument panel that sits low on the dashboard. It will also feature high soundproofing glass and wind-noise reduction components.

The bZ4X will also feature seat and steering wheel heaters as well as front-seat radiant foot-heating.

Powering the electrified SUV will be two synchronous electric motor-generators and a 355V lithium-ion battery.

Safety-wise, Toyota says that the bZ4X will be equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense.

The bZ4X is built on the company’s new e-TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) BEV-dedicated platform which was jointly developed with Subaru.

At the front will be a strut-type coil spring suspension setup while a double wishbone-type coil spring arrangement will support the rear. Stopping power will come from ventilated discs front and back.

It will be offered in front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models and is scheduled for launch in all regions from mid-2022.
