Toyota US gives Tundra a TRD 3-inch lift kit

Toyota’s United States (US) arm announced that the Tundra pickup truck can now be optioned with a 3.0-inch lift kit developed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD). The add-on, per Toyota, makes the already capable full-size pickup bigger and bolder.

Included in the kit are Bilstein front and rear shocks, Roush forged upper control arms, taller front coil springs, front lower knuckles, front stabilizer links, front outer tie rods, front tie rod sleeves, front extended drive shafts, front bump stops, extended brake flex hoses, and rear spring spacers.

The kit not only raises the truck but also increases its off-road capability with improved approach and departure angles. The approach angle increases from 21.0 to 26.0 degrees. 

The departure angle increases from 24.0 to 25.0 degrees.

Available nationwide as a dealer-installed option, this lift kit is the only Toyota-approved lift kit designed to work with the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system. It is priced at US$3,995 (P232,570).

“There are many compromises with aftermarket lift kits, some of which can impact the function of vehicle features or safety systems. We have designed this kit to work seamlessly with the Tundra’s standard features, retain all Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) functionality, maintain similar stock driving dynamics by creating a kit with a high center of gravity and provide a look and feel customers want with a lift,” said TRD Principal Engineer Mikhal el Arculli.

In the Philippines, the closest we can get to a souped-up pickup truck from Toyota is the Hilux GR-Sport. The automobile comes fitted with cosmetic enhancements like a black gloss G-mesh front grille with the bold Toyota emblem, as well as gloss black body-colored over fenders and sports bars.

It rides on machine-cut finished 18-inch alloy wheels with black-tinted clear coating.
