Toyota Rush Overview
The Rush was included in Toyota Philippines lineup for car market back in 2017 with its globally third-generation version. Before the arrival of the Toyota Rush in the Philippines, the nameplate was used for a five-seater compact SUV which was essentially a rebadged version of the Daihatsu Terios, a budget-oriented vehicle for emerging markets. This Philippine-spec Toyota Rush too is a rebadged version of Daihatsu Terios as well. However, this time around, it is a flashy-looking compact seven-seater crossover that has been styled in a rugged manner to make it look like an SUV cars.
Toyota Rush History
While the Toyota Rush nameplate is in use in many other global markets, the Philippines car market got the vehicle as a seven-seater compact crossover in 2017. For this globally third-generation version of Rush, Toyota Philippines adopted an all-new sharp approach, which made this compact crossover look sleek and stylish, contrary to the erstwhile five-seater versions of the global-spec Rush.
Since its launch in 2017, the Toyota Rush has been in more or less the same form, with no visual, feature, or performance upgrades whatsoever. For its price and size, the Toyota Rush is a decently kitted-out vehicle, with essentials like full LED headlamps, touchscreen infotainment system, machined alloy wheels, automatic climate control, steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls.
Since its launch, the Toyota Rush has been made available with a single petrol engine option – a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is good enough to make a maximum power output of 103 PS and a maximum torque output of 134 Nm.
Toyota Rush Highlight
Toyota hasn’t gone overboard with the lineup of Rush, and this compact seven-seater compact crossover comes with only three variants to choose from – E MT, E AT, and G AT. A 4-speed automatic gearbox is standard to both E and G trims, with the E trim also having an option of a 5-speed manual gearbox on offer.
The E trim of the Toyota Rush misses out on some of the essentials like smoked chrome finish on the front grille, roof rails, leather finish for the steering wheel and gear knob, Bluetooth controls on steering wheel, retractable rearview mirrors, automatic climate control, and push-button start which are standard in the G trim level. Also, the E trim gets smaller 16-inch wheels and 6-speakers, against bigger 17-inch wheels and 8-speaker setup in the G variant.
Toyota Rush Safety
Since its launch, the Toyota Rush has been made available with a good set of safety features, which is decently long enough for the segment to which it belongs. The Rush gets a total of six airbags (front, side, and curtain), ABS, vehicle stability control with traction control, hill start assist and emergency stop signal, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, reverse parking sensors, and reverse camera. All these safety features have been made available in all the variants of the Toyota Rush as standard, which is indeed an appreciable move.
Toyota Rush Fuel Consumption
The 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine of the Toyota Rush is neither too performance-oriented nor too fuel economic in a general sense. The Rush promises a fuel economy of 14.1 km/l, which is a bit lower than one’s expectations.
New Toyota Rush Fuel Consumptions
- Toyota Rush 2021: 14.1 KM / L

Toyota Rush Pros and Cons
Toyota Rush Pros
- Sleek looks – Compared to the slightly drab and outdated looking erstwhile 5-seater versions, this new third generation of the Rush looks sleek and smart, courtesy of the sharp lines and full LED illumination setup.
- Decently spacious cabin – The Toyota Rush classifies as a seven-seater crossover, and while the dimensions are small, the space levels on the inside are very appreciable, even in the third row of seats.
- Engine refinement – The naturally aspirated petrol engine under the hood of the Toyota Rush feels linear and refined across the rpm range.
Toyota Rush Cons
- Boring driving dynamics – The light and uninspiring steering feedback, high center of gravity and lethargic performance of the engine curb the overall driving appeal of the Toyota Rush
- Low fuel efficiency – For a vehicle with 1.5-litre petrol engine, the Toyota Rush isn’t too fuel economic for the segment standards.
- Could have done with more features – While the new generation vehicles are becoming more and more feature-rich and tech-savvy, the Toyota Rush does only with bare essentials and nothing new for the segment.
