2021 Jaguar F-Pace gets tweaked inside, outside, and under the hood

The Jaguar F-Pace SUV goes through a somewhat major refresh for 2021, with updates to the exterior design tweaks, interior convenience enhancements, and a new mild hybrid (MHEV) powertrain option. The new MHEV powertrain brings up the F-Pace’s number of variants to four, from the previous three.

As for the exterior changes, the 2021 F-Pace doesn’t look that much different from its predecessor at first glance, but a closer scrutiny will show that the hood, bumpers, and headlights have been updated. Ultra-slim, all-LED quad headlights with “Double J Blade” daytime running light signatures bookend the enlarged grille that features the heritage Jaguar logo-inspired “diamond” detailing. In some markets, the plain black grille has been replaced with one that shows a chrome outline.

At the rear, the brake lights rear bumper and exhaust tips are also new. Slimline rear combi lights feature the Jaguar signature ‘double chicane’ visual. First previewed on the all-electric I-PACE, the graphic helps emphasize the vehicle’s girth. A sculpted tailgate add even more visual acuity, and makes the new model less brawny than the outgoing car. At least, when viewed from the back.

“The new F-PACE is dynamic and assertive with an elegant stance on the road—it represents a significant development of Jaguar design language,” said Julian Thomson, Jaguar Design Director. “The heightened luxury and attention to detail inside the F-PACE with seamlessly integrated state-of-the-art technologies ensure both driver and passengers feel a real sense of occasion whenever they get in the vehicle.”

Interior-wise, the biggest changes are beset in the infotainment array. An 11.4-inch curved glass HD touchscreen replaces the 10-inch display of the previous version, the larger size complemented by enhanced graphics, elegant magnesium alloy encasement, and Jaguar’s new Pivi Pro operating system.

The upgraded Pivi Pro offers simplified menu structures that allow drivers to access or view common tasks in two taps or less, ushering in a whole new world of ease and convenience. The OS also comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. Navigation functionality is supported via the driver’s smartphone using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also permits over-the-air updates—the first time the feature has been made available to Pivi Pro OS.

All of the 2021 F-Pace’s technological advancements are made possible by the British marque’s new platform, Electronic Vehicle Architecture 2.0 (EVA 2.0). According to Jaguar, the new platform supports a range of new technologies to ensure connectivity over time, in a way that “future-proofs” the SUV for the 21st century, according to Alex Heslop, Director of Electronics and Software, Jaguar Land Rover.

Jaguar also retooled the interior surfaces, allowing F-Pace owners to enjoy more soft-touch surfaces this time around, starting with the instrument panel topper and door armrests and on to the console sides and door bins. Authentic finishes, including open-pore wood veneers and aluminum, feature in beautifully formed shapes such as the upper door insert and full-width “piano lid” styling that dresses the instrument panel. Laser-etched mid-line speaker frets, the metallic rotary dial of the JaguarDrive Control, and a gear selector inspired by cricket ball stitching further express the cabin’s meticulous detailing.

Driver assistance technology is boosted by new features such as the nifty Clear Exit Monitor, which alerts both front and rear occupants to the presence of an approaching car or cyclist as they exit the vehicle. Blind Spot Assist with Rear Traffic Monitor and 3D Surround Camera are standard on all F-PACE models, providing drivers with real-time viewing when maneuvering.

As for the powertrain, the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder remains, complemented by an MHEV that combines a 3.0-liter inline-six with an electric supercharger and a twin-scroll turbo. A belt-driven generator and a 48V lithium-ion battery allow the MHEV variant to store power. For easier reference, below is the breakdown of the 2021 F-Pace’s powertrain options for the US market:

  • 246hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (F-PACE P250, S P250)
  • 335hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged six-cylinder MHEV (S P340)
  • 395hp, 3.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged six-cylinder MHEV (R-Dynamic S P400)

The F-Pace has more varied powertrain options for its European market version. Nevertheless, all powertrain types link to an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.

The new 2021 Jaguar F-Pace is already on sale in US and Europe beginning at USD46,350 (approx. PHP2.24 million before fees and taxes).

The Jaguar F-Pace currently sold locally is the 2020 model, which has a price range of PHP5.29 to 9.19 million.
