Despite being relatively new on the market, Audi's e-tron Sportback is already establishing its dominance in the safety department, as it earns a “2020 Top Safety Pick+” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. This accolade is the highest rating awarded to a vehicle after undergoing a number of evaluations.
The 2020 e-tron Sportback is the second fully electric model from the German brand, following the 2019 Audi e-tron SUV, which made history as the first EV from any manufacturer to be awarded with a Top Safety Pick+ designation.
Through IIHS’s evaluations, the e-tron Sportback's body and structure aced the safety performance tests, earning the top “Good” rating in all six areas of crashworthiness performance: small front overlap collision evaluations on both the driver and passenger sides, moderate front overlap, side impact, roof strength and head restraints and seat performance.
The vehicle also bagged a “Good” rating with its Matrix Design LED headlights and “Superior” with standard automatic emergency braking as part of the Audi Pre sense front, a system that detects pedestrians and cyclists in the vehicle’s path at speeds of up to 84 kph, and vehicles at up to 250 kph. This safety feature can also apply an emergency braking system when a potential collision is detected.
Audi's e-tron Sportback is a luxury EV that offers everyday utility and a distinct road presence. It comes equipped with a 95 kWh battery pack that allows it to travel up to 350 kms on just a single charge. It can produce 402 hp and 664 Nm of torque. With regards to price, it starts at $77,400, or Php 3.8 million.
Audi’s goal of electrifying approximately 30 percent of its U.S. lineup by 2025 is slowly coming to fruition, and the e-tron Sportback is just another stepping stone in achieving that mission.
The Audi e-Tron's SUV version is slated to arrive at our shores in August of this year, with a Php 4.4 million starting price.
