Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is presenting an attractive deal on its flagship sports car GR Supra.
For the whole month of May, buyers can drive home the iconic coupe for a monthly rate of ₱41,584. Aside from that, the leading automotive distributor in the country offers it with zero-percent interest.
The legendary nameplate has already cycled through five generations in almost five decades.
It started out in the 1970s as the larger and more powerful version of the Toyota Celica. The premier Celica Supra had an inline-six engine and is one of the first Toyota models to get the electronic fuel injection system.
In the 1980s, the second-generation Celica continued to share engineering and name with the Supra, which both sport a more angular design compared to their predecessor.
The Supra and the Celica had their respective distinction in the third generation in the mid-1980s with the sportscar wearing an updated 3.0L inline-six engine with 200hp and the turbocharged version at 230hp.
The fourth generation was restructured with a bolder look further inspired by the 2000GT. Toyota jacked up its performance while trimming the weight.
After 17 years, the current version arrived with teasers, and the FT concept car along the way. The latest offering—developed under Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), Toyota’s global motorsports division—now carries “GR” in its official model name, to let everyone know the specialized research and development of high-performance cars that TGR continuously aims for.
The newest offering is equipped with a twin-scroll turbocharged, in-line six-cylinder 3.0L engine that has a peak output of 335hp and 500 Nm. TMP claimed that its “nearly perfect weight distribution provides optimum handling and cornering for the driver.”
The said vehicle sits on 19-inch forged aluminum wheels and custom-made Michelin tires—complementing the double-bubble roof design. On the inside, is rich carbon trim and Alcantara leather sports seats with eight-way power adjust (with memory and power seat lumbar support).
It also has been fitted with an 8.8-inch TFT LCD touchscreen display compatible for Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and 12-speaker JBL Surround Sound System.
