MANILA: With 2026 nearly on its halfway mark, Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated (CAMPI) and the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) have yet to overcome their sales last year as January-May 2026 results show that they are still 10 percent behind.

CAMPI brand members saw a 133.5 percent year-on-year increase in sales for xEVs.
  • How many cars did the member brands of CAMPI sell from January-May 2026?

From the said period, CAMPI brand members sold 167,324 units.
  • Based on their joint report, the two organizations jointly sold 167,324 examples in the first five months of the year—reflecting a 12.1-percent decline over the 190,429 vehicles rolled out to clients in the same timeline in 2025.

However, the groups sold 33,532 units in May 2026, which showed an almost 24 percent increase compared to April 2026’s retail performance of 27,089 units.

Continuing to drive sales for CAMPI and TMA are the models under the commercial vehicle segment, with 134,882 units handed over to customers as of the end of May this year—cornering 80.61 percent share of the overall sales volume. The same number reflected an 11-percent slide when compared to 151,704 vehicles handed over to buyers during the January-May 2026 timeline.

Passenger cars accounted for the remaining 19.39 percent of the market, with 32,442 units sold during the first five months of 2026—a 16.2 percent decline from the same period last year.

CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza attributed the increasing demand for conventional internal combustion engine vehicles last month to fuel prices becoming more stable.

“Our overall market outlook has improved with actual vehicle sales performing better than previously expected despite the fuel crisis,” he noted.
