The head of the Ford Philippines said that they are targeting to maintain its position being one of the two leaders in the pickup segment with their 14-variant strong Ranger offering in the country.
Ford Philippines President and Managing Director PK Umashankar told reporters during a virtual press conference that they are looking forward to keeping that share of the market for 2021, which is the targeted recovery year for the automotive (among other) industry.
“We want to sustain that 4x4 space or even higher,” Umashankar said.
Despite the challenges last year, the local distributor of the Blue Oval was able to corner 24 percent share of the market, just a stone-throw lead from the segment leader which is the Toyota Hilux. The current version of the Hilux in Toyota’s stable, in comparison, has 13 variants.
Umashankar shared that also in 2020, the Ford Ranger stable was able to sell 9,767 units for the full 12 months of 2020. Aside from that, the nameplate held the 41 percent of the 4x4 pick-up market in the country.
It was of December 2020 when the 10,000th unit of the performance-based Ranger Raptor was delivered to its customer.
Just this week, the Ford Ranger FX4 Max was revealed to the public as part of the Live the Ranger Life promotion in the country, which unveiled the revamped version of the Ranger that had the last refresh back in January 2020.
The powertrain of the Ranger FX4 Max is a 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel engine that is able to provide more than 210 horsepower and 500Nm torque and is matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission—sharing the same pairing with the higher variants Ranger Raptor and Wildtrak 4x4.
