North American 2021 Audi RS 5 Coupe, Sportback get launch editions

Audi unveiled the updated Audi RS5 Coupé and Sportback December of last year, revealing a few design tweaks that aligned the duo more with the A5 Coupé and Liftback.

The more aggressive design tweaks, characterized by a more vertical Singleframe grille and a handful of Audi Quattro-inspired design cues, were deemed a better complement to the RS5’s noteworthy performance capabilities.

The car is just making its way to North America, and to make the launch more special, Audi has announced two limited versions: an Ascari and Black Optic launch edition, both available for the Coupe and Sportback.

The Ascari version will see the RS5 colored in exclusive Ascari Blue metallic paint, blue brake calipers and ceramic front brakes, 20-inch 5-arm-flag design forged wheels in silver finish with summer performance tires, carbon fiber trimmed engine cover. Inside, the steering wheel gets upgraded to a 3-spoke flat-bottom variety wrapped in Alcantara. There’s also an Audi dynamic steering which offers a variable steering ratio that adjusts based on vehicle speed and the Audi drive select setting.

Other additions include Audi exclusive painted matte alu optic side sill inlays, RS Carbon matte inlays and RS design package interior with gray contrast stitching, RS sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control and RS sport exhaust system with black tailpipes, and Driver assistance package and navigation package.

The Black Optic launch edition on the other hand, includes 20-inch 5-segment-spoke-evo design wheels in high-gloss black finish with summer performance tires, black Audi rings and badges, black roof (Coupe only, excludes Mythos Black), and other high-gloss black exterior elements including black mirror housings, front spoiler and rear diffuser trim. Cabin-wise, there’s the 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel in Alcantara with shift paddles, RS Carbon matte inlays and RS design package interior with red contrast stitching, as well as the aforementioned Audi dynamic steering. A driver assistance package and navigation package is also part and parcel.

A dynamic package comprising red brake calipers, RS sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control and the RS sport exhaust system with black tailpipes provides some added eye candy, as does an array of exclusive colors including Mythos Black, Glacier White, Daytona Gray, Nardo Gray, Tango Red.

The Ascari will have 25 Coupe and 100 Sportback units, while the Black Optic will have 100 Coupe and 325 Sportback examples.

Both the revised RS5 Coupé and Sportback are powered by the same engine used in the outgoing model, which is a 2.9-liter twin turbo V6 power mill that churns out 444hp and 600Nm of torque. An 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 3.9 secs and cap off at 280kmph top speed.

The new infotainment operating system of the two RS5 models is controlled via a 10.1-inch MMI touch display. The large, free-standing display with acoustic feedback is angled slightly toward the driver for better ergonomics. When the top infotainment system MMI navigation+ is used, a dedicated RS monitor provides the driver with information on longitudinal and lateral acceleration, drive temperature, tire pressure, tire temperature, and the Quattro sport differential.
