Toyota continues plant ops after earthquake

Toyota revealed that it will continue to operate its factories in Japan after the country was struck by an earthquake on January 1, 2024.

To recall, the Land of the Rising Sun was hit by an earthquake in the Noto Peninsula — a coastal area known for agriculture, fishery, and tourism.

“In regards to Toyota Motor Corporation’s plant operation schedule for January 8 onwards, after much consideration, we have made the decision to operate our vehicle plants in Japan. Many of our local suppliers and their affiliates were affected by the earthquake. Therefore, we will utilize parts in stock outside the affected areas,” the Japanese automotive brand wrote in a press release.

“As aftershocks are still continuing in the Noto region, we would like to determine separately concerning operations after January 15. This will be done while carefully assessing the situation and continuing to place the highest priority on the safety of those involved and the restoration of the region,” Toyota added.

Per reports delivered by large news outlets, the earthquake that hit Japan had a magnitude of 7.5. The calamity caused damage to roads and infrastructures as well as claimed multiple lives.

Toyota has extended its condolences and sympathies to all those affected by the earthquake. Further, it thanked everyone participating in relief efforts and hoped for a speedy recovery.
