Toyota global sales dip by 0.5 percent in 2022

Toyota announced that its overall global sales saw a decline in 2022 — by 0.5 percent.

Further, its sales for the month of December 2022 dropped by 1.4 percent.

“In 2022 (January to December), despite the impact of parts supply shortages caused by the spread of COVID-19, increased demand for semiconductors, and other factors, global production was up year-on-year as a result of increased capacity and production optimization in North America and Asia, a rebound from parts supply shortages associated with the spread of COVID-19 in the previous year, and other factors,” Toyota said in a press release.

According to the Japanese automotive brand, its overall worldwide sales from January to December 2022 was around 9.566 million units. And in the final month of the year, Toyota sold 839,299 units.

In contrast to its 2021 sales report, the Aichi-based brand sold 9.615 million units from January to December. And in December 2021, Toyota sold 851,241 units.

“The situation remains difficult to predict due to semiconductor shortages and COVID-19. However, we will continue to carefully monitor the parts supply situation and minimize sudden decreases in production as much as possible while making every effort to deliver as many vehicles to our customers at the earliest date,” Toyota added.
