Toyota GR PH Cup RW2 turns track into higher biofuel mix test lab
MANILA: The second race weekend of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (GR) Philippine Cup provided more than heart-pumping excitement: it became a testing ground for using low-carbon biofuels.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
When and where are the next legs of the 2026 TGR Philippine Cup?
The third leg of the 2026 TGR Philippine Cup will be held at the Batangas Racing Circuit on August 13-15, 2026. This year’s last leg, meanwhile, will take place once again at the Clark International Speedway on September 10-12, 2026.How many racers participated in the second leg of the 2026 Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup?
A total of 32 racers participated in the second leg of the 2026 TGR Philippine Cup.Last week, Vios One-Make Race (OMR) cars had the E20 bio-ethanol blend, while the Tamaraw One-Make Races used a B5 coco-biodiesel blend—making the initiative in line with Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) mission to advance the cause of more sustainable motorsports.
With the rollout of the ongoing activity, TMP became the first automotive manufacturer locally to conduct such initiative.
In a statement, TMP noted that the use of biofuels pushes the country’s energy security and strengthens the agricultural sector—saying that it could cut down dependence on importing fuel sourcing abroad while sourcing products from feedstock grown by local coconut and sugarcane farmers.

“Through testing in extreme motorsports conditions on the racetrack, Toyota continues to evaluate the biofuels’ performance, efficiency, and reliability, and commits to share results with government agencies and key biofuel stakeholders advocating for broader public adoption,” TMP shared.
Currently, around three-quarters of Toyota and Lexus gasoline models are already E20-compatible, while all Toyota diesel models are B5-compatible.
Further, TMP mentioned that the increased use of and capacity for locally sourced biofuels is aimed at gradually reducing the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels.

If we can produce more of what we need locally, we are less affected by problems happening far away. Second, it supports our farmers. By using more coconut-based fuel, we create more demand for what they produce,” TMP President Masando Hashimoto.
