Toyota to suspend 2 plants in Japan by Jan. 2023

Toyota announced that it will temporarily suspend two facilities in Japan for the month of January.

Factories, whose production is to be temporarily halted, are the Toyota Tahara Plant and the Hino Hamura Plant. The said suspension will affect the production of nameplates, which are the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, the Toyota 4Runner, and the Lexus GX.

According to the Aichi-based brand, the suspension for the Toyota Tahara Plant is scheduled on January 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, and 27. Meanwhile, the provisional postponement of the Hino Hamura Plant will take place on January 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 20, 23, and 27.

The planned global production volume for January 2023 is expected to be around 700,000 units. Approximately 200,000 units will be produced in Japan and 500,000 units are to be built overseas.

“We at Toyota would like to again apologize for the repeated adjustments to our production plan due to the parts shortage resulting from the spread of COVID-19, and for causing considerable inconvenience to our customers, who have been waiting for the delivery of vehicles, suppliers, and other parties concerned,” Toyota said in a press release.

“We will continue to closely examine and monitor the supply of semiconductors and work with related parties to consider all possible measures to ensure that we can deliver as many vehicles to our customers at the earliest date,” added the automotive brand.

To note, Toyota also suspended operations in seven of its Japanese plants in October due to parts shortage.
