KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many vehicles did the CAMPI-TMA sell in January 2023?

The two groups sold 29,499 units in January 2023.
  • How big is the sales increase that CAMPI and TMA enjoyed last January when compared to the same month in 2022?

The groups experienced a 42.1-percent rise last January when compared to the same period in 2022.
  • Based on their joint report, the two groups sold 29,499 units last month. The aforementioned number reflects a 42.1-percent  growth in comparison to the same month last year wherein they delivered 20,785 examples to customers.

The said volume of vehicles rolled to buyers in January 2023 is 20.8 percent lower if compared to the December 2022 sales when CAMPI-TMA retailed 37,259 units.

The commercial vehicle (CV) segment continues to provide the positive sales thrust — selling 21,993 units in January 2023 and cornering 74.56 percent of the market. The aforementioned number showed a 46.8-percent jump from the 14,981 vehicles sold in January 2023, but a 23.2-percent slide versus the 28,645-units sold in the concluding month of 2022.

Meanwhile, passenger car (PC) sales for the initial month of the year went up by 29.8 percent after the two groups sold 7,506 units (25.44 percent market share) from the 5,784 units in January 2022 (27.85 percent market share). The PC segment had a 12.86-percent dip when compared to December 2022’s 8,614 units bought by consumers.

According to CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, “the double-digit sales growth of 42.1% recorded in January, coming from a year-on-year robust growth performance in 2022 is a good development momentum for the auto industry as we start the year.”

“The auto industry is optimistic of its continued expansion from the demand-side standpoint driven by the growing domestic consumer market. On the other hand, the supply-side challenges are also an important factor that the industry is mindful of as this may hamper the industry growth”, Gutierrez explained.

The CAMPI president noted that the “the auto sales sustained growth or exceeded the last year’s record is not always clear-cut as our overall economic health and activity depends on various economic key indicators.”

Claiming the third and fourth spot last month were Ford Motor Philippines (2,107 examples retailed) and Nissan Philippines Inc. and Nissan Philippines Inc. (1,878 units).

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. took the fifth position from Suzuki Philippines Inc. after selling 1,639 examples in the starting month of the year.
